History

The parcel of land being developed by Mr. Dan Dumais has been  important in the history of Granby.

In 1775 the First Congregational Church decided to move from it’s original  location near the center of town. Once the corner of Creamery Hill Road and North Church Road was the location was chosen, the original building was dismantled and reconstructed on this site. It stood there for 60 years when it was again dismantled and relocated one last time to it’s present location on North Granby Road.

This area of Granby was also known for the Granby Creamery Company, which was formed in 1882. The creamery was located across the street from the present day 62 Creamery Hill Road. Driven by a steam engine fueled by coal carted from the railroad depot, this giant churn produced over 1000 pounds of high-grade butter per day. At the height of it’s business in 1906 members of the association were selling their product to Hartford, New Haven and Waterbury.
